Meet Our New Youth Director
We're happy to announce that Jon Goforth will be serving as the youth director at Christ Covenant. He and his wife Lauren have been worshipping with us for several months now and you may have met them already. But here's a brief Q&A with Jon so you can get to know him better.
Please pray that the Lord would bring great joy and encouragement to Jon and Lauren as they integrate into our church, and that the Lord would make their work fruitful as they serve among the youth.
1. Where have you been over the past year and what brings you to Raleigh now?
We have been in Mill Valley, CA, which is 6 miles south of downtown San Francisco for the past year. We were living in California so I could attend seminary. This last spring semester my wife became pregnant and our jobs were transferring to Southern California. We saw that as a perfect opportunity to move back to the east coast to be closer to family and friends. We chose Raleigh because I wanted to finish my masters degree at Southeastern Seminary and we have relationships with close college friends who reside in Raleigh.
2. You'll be a part-time youth director here; what will you be doing with the rest of your time?
For the rest of my time I will be working full time at Chick-Fil-A of Wake Forest, spending time with Lauren, learning how to care for our newborn (which I have no idea what I am doing), and reading good books!
3. What do you want to be the key characteristics of your work with the youth and parents of Christ Covenant?
My hope is to partner with the parents and the body of Christ Covenant to fulfill Colossians 1:28 which says, “Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ.” A key characteristic that I desire for our youth group is to be anchored in Scripture, which will ground the students in Christ because He is the yes and amen of Scripture. This will be accomplished through teaching and fellowship in our weekly gatherings at Wednesday night church, discipleship groups, and monthly events.
4. What's the lighter side of Jon Goforth look like?
I love playing basketball, golf, and frisbee. I enjoy cheering for the only excellent team in college basketball; The Duke Blue Devils. Lauren and I enjoy the occasional visit to the movies, spending time with friends, and playing board games.
