November 18: Christian Community (Heb 3:12-14)
Hebrews 3:12-15 "Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God. But exhort one another every day, as long as it is called “today,” that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin. For we have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original confidence firm to the end."
In this passage we find the second of the five "warning passages" set within the book of Hebrews. Here the author seeks to arrest the reader's keen attention by calling each brother to consider his own heart, especially in light of the straying "wilderness generation" who did not enter God's rest (Heb 3:7-11). To guard against the same result, the writer charges the readers to "exhort one another every day" which serves as a divine provision against the deceitfulness of sin. As you prepare for Sunday, consider the important role that you are to play in the life of your brother and sister in Christ and allow this text to increase your earnest commitment to one another, the body of Christ.
