October 14: The Prize of Purity (Matt 5:8)
Matthew 5:8 “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.”
In this beatitude we have probably the hardest demand with the greatest promise. Jesus is offering joy to the one who is single minded in his approach to God, undivided in his fear, unwavering in his love. The saint that pursues this purity of heart will receive the promise of seeing God. The fulfillment of this promise will come both in this life and then in full measure in the next. Consider your allegiances, loves and pursuits: are they leading you to a glorious vision of God or dissatisfaction and discontentment with life? Consider that the prize of purity is nothing short of seeing God.
