October 21: Making Peace Like Jesus (Matt 5:9)
Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God."
Peacemaking is the seventh mark of the one who dwells in the kingdom. We live in a world that is filled with strife, conflict, and bitterness, but God's kingdom confronts this world with a peace that is not simply seeking the absence of conclift and evil, but which also seeks to restore relationships to a place of wholeness. The gospel instructs us that peace has been made through the cross of Jesus Christ. On the cross the enmity that caused alienation between God and man was removed and paid for so that we could be reconciled to the Father. Those who have been reconciled in this way are now ambassadors of peace to a world that remains in strife and conflict.
