Praying for the Haiti Trip

IMG_0897.JPGTom Mercer and Stan Wiebe flew out this morning for Port-au-Prince, Haiti. From there they will travel 150km north, just past Gonaives, to the Centre de Formation et Nutrition des Enfants (Children's Training and Nutrition Center).

Stan will have many meetings over the next few days with the leadership of the school, children's home, and churches there. At the same time, Tom will be teaching a mini-course in New Testament theology for pastors and church leaders (Thurs-Sat, Sep 3-5).

Each year we take two trips to Haiti to teach a pastors conference for the Poteau pastors association, which has about 75 pastors and church leaders. We have also been able to serve the community in other practical ways, especially as many members of Christ Covenant personally sponsor children in the home and school.

Our desire is that these biannual training conferences will result in stronger leaders and churches in the area, and that brothers and sisters there will be encouraged in our shared faith. This is what Paul desired for his partnership with the church in Rome: "For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you--that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine" (Rom. 1:11-12).

Please pray that the Lord would use Tom and Stan as they serve among our brothers and sisters in Haiti. Pray that their work would be a reflection of God's love and that God would cause their work to be fruitful and enduring. "Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes, establish the work of our hands!" (Ps. 90:17).
