Serving Women at The Encouraging Place
Once again this summer Christ Covenant Church has the opportunity to provide meals for the Encouraging Place, a downtown women’s outreach. The Encouraging Place is an urban Christian ministry centered in downtown Raleigh that supports and encourages women in all walks of life. At Christmas, Christ Covenant provided toys for their Pride for Parents store and for the last several summers we provided several meals for a camp.
This ministry has been around for over ten years and was originally part of Building Together Ministries. It began as a weekly moms' night out for the mothers of children in their summer day camp. The group started out small but grew quickly as word spread to friends and neighbors. It was incorporated as its own ministry in 2008, and now has over 20 locations around the city. Last year over 800 women experienced the love of Christ through a shared meal, childcare and practical teaching.
Camp meets one night a week for seven weeks and offers dinner, donated by churches and individuals, followed by an inspirational message. There are camps all over the area including the Raleigh Correctional Center for Women and several homeless shelters.
We are providing meals for two weeks, July 16 & July 30, at the community center on Lake Wheeler Rd. which has about 40-50 women at each gathering. For the July 16 meeting, we are making dinner and serving it. For the July 30 meeting, Jennifer Morgan is going to have a cooking demonstration for the women and lead the worship. If you are interested in coming to help serve the food, making part of the meal, or in donating money to purchase the food (for the meal prepared by Jennifer Morgan) please contact Mary Hill Herold at (919) 369-7470 (preferable) or e-mail at email@example.com. Thank you!
