Using Gifts We Were Given
by Sarah Williams
“Oh taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in Him!” Psalm 34:8
What a joy it’s been to serve the Karen at the Wednesday night tutoring sessions! It has been so sweet to see the kids piling out of the 15 passenger vans with smiles on their faces ready to start on their homework – or just be a part of the fun! ☺ While I have tutored the elementary aged kids in the past, this year I’ve been more involved in setting up, serving, and cleaning up from the meal that’s provided each Wednesday. I’m thankful that I can serve this way. It’s been sweet to build relationships with the kids. Some I’ve known for the past 6 years, but the ministry has grown a lot and there are many new faces that I’m getting to meet. While I know I’m not a math or science whiz and the thought of tutoring can be intimidating sometimes, I believe that God equips us with all that we need when He calls us to serve! “When we are weak, He is strong" (2 Corinthians 12:10). There’s a place to serve on Wednesday nights for everyone; whether it’s serving the meal, reading a book to a kindergartner, playing games with kids who have finished their homework, or helping a 10th grader with their math. Wednesday night tutoring is a way we as a body can serve the Lord for His glory, and it’s been a joy to come along side this ministry and watch these kids become more confident in doing their homework and build relationships with them. To God be the glory, great things He has done!
